If you’ve heard of Minecraft then I do not doubt the fact that you have heard of the Yogscast. Comprising of the brilliant British duo, Simon and Lewis, the Yogscast make every effort to show just how great Minecraft actually is.
If you are a regular follower of their work, then it is quite likely that you have seen their project, the YogBox. The YogBox is a compilation of some of the greatest Minecraft mods available to date. The YogBox recently hit v1.0 status and is at its best yet.
Designed to be both easy to use and easy to install, the YogBox packs a number of great mods all in to one package. The custom installer makes installing as simple as clicking (no need to delve in to the depths of the minecraft.jar file yourself!) and there is plenty of support available if you get stuck somewhere in the process of installation (see the original post)
When first installing the package, be sure that you have backed up all your save files and you are working with a fresh installation of Minecraft. To ensure your version of Minecraft is fresh, you can force update your client by clicking ‘Options’ on the lo in screen, or by deleting your Minecraft folder (Minecraft will then re-download next time you hit your short cut).
New with v1.0 is NanoToms single player RPG mod which allows you to ‘level up’ in skills from woodcutting to athletics – a welcomed addition which adds a greater sense of depth to the game. This mod also rewards players who have been playing a while with perks such as increased mining speed, increased running speed, etc. when you get your skills to a high enough level.
Some mods are installed as part of the ‘Core Install’ which are mods required for the YogBox to work, some of these will come with user definable options which you can alter yourself to suit your gameplay style. Alongside the ‘Core install’ mods are some additional ‘Optional mods’ which you can choose to install or not again depending on your playstyle.
These are all the mods currently available as part of the YogBox (Bold indicates a ‘Core’ mod):

- Back-up important saves and mods to another directory
- Ensure you have a fresh install of Minecraft, if you force update, make sure your mod folder in the .minecraft directory is empty
- Download the YogBox and run the installer, the installer will guide you through the rest of the process
- Check any documentation on the mods which get installed, some of them are quite in-depth and to get the best out of them you might need to do a bit of reading!
