Review

Monster dash has been available on the iOS for sometime, but more recently, it has made its way to the Chrome web store. Available for free, Monster Dash is a great way to keep you entertained when trying to pass some time.

If you are unfamiliar with the Chrome app store, quite simply it is a virtual marketplace which allows you to download hundreds of extensions or applications to your Chrome browser. It is as simply as clicking install on the web app you’d like to add and then Chrome does all the rest.

Once you’ve installed the app, it is available to launch from the home page of your browser, above where your top visited sites are listed.

So now on to the game itself. The premise of Monster Dash is simple; avoid ledges, monsters and spikes by jumping or shooting your way past them. You have three lives to run as far as you can, however if you fall down a ledge, then it’s game over for you!

In a world filled with monsters and without public transportation, one man is running.

That man is Barry Steakfries.

Monster Dash is an action game starring the lovable hero Barry Steakfries as he runs and shoots monsters with nothing to lose! Travel through portals to visit exotic world locations, battling demons, mummies, vampires and more! No monster is safe when Steakfries is on the case!

Run, shoot and jump your way to freedom!

Every 1,000 metres you run, you are teleported to another exotic land where there could be any number of new monster, weapons or surprises waiting for you. The controls are very simple to master, simply press the up arrow to jump and the right arrow to shoot. Shoot monsters and jump ledges with two buttons, sounds simple but it can get quite difficult. As you run further, you pick up speed making it tricky to negotiate jumps and thus making you more likely to fall.

The Weapons

There are quite a variety of weapons that you will come across during your daring dash. You start of with a simple shotgun, but you may come across a whole host of weapons, from ‘Mr Zapper’ to rocket launchers. Below is what a weapon crate looks like, get excited when you see one of these because they are filled with overpowered goodies!

Picking up a new weapon

You don’t necessarily need weapons to make you way through levels, you could just simply jump across any enemies you see. This might be a bit more tricky though so it’s always best to fire away! The standard shotgun has a very short range, meaning you have to be pretty close to an enemy to kill something. Some of the other weapons which you can pick up have a much greater range however:

There are a couple of weapons which are going to help you in a slightly different manner. The machine gun jetpack, allows you to traverse gaps easier, making you less likely to fall, but it is powered by machine guns. This makes it very easy (and fun) to fly over your enemies and spray them with your jetpack leaving a trail of destruction.

The other is my (and I’m sure will soon be your) favourite. Let me introduce you to the ‘Badass Hog’ a motorbike you’re able to ride, destroying everything in your path (because it’s badass). You can even fire your shotgun from the Hog making it all that more special, you’ll also travel a lot faster on the bike so expect to reach the portal at 1,000m a lot sooner!

Everything Else

So I’ve spoken quite a lot about the weapons, but that is because they make up the predominant part of the game. Monster Dash will keep you coming back as you try to better your score and get on the leaderboard. That’s not all though, there are plenty of achievements to unlock and as we all know, everyone loves achievements! Because this is a Chrome game, it is simple enough to install and play whenever you are waiting for something to load, need to pass a bit of time, procrastinating, etc.

Monster Dash is definitely worth your time, so go and download it! If you love it, remember that it is also available on iOS so you can play it where ever you are.
